weight training schedule for women
For women in the Air Force.. please help?

I am scheduled to leave for basic training in san antonio Texas at Lackland Airforce base on November 18th 2008. I have been jogging, but not as often as i should be, and i really can not do one push-up. I think that i need to build my upper body strength, and since i dont have weights, im lifting my big clorox bleach bottles, to hopefully gain some more strength. But my question is when you actually went to basic training, was it more than what you expected, or was it easier than you expected it to be. Did the PT make you cry? Were they as mean as you thought? How about the other recruits, how were they?, and were you actually able to gain friendships there, or were you too occupied? Did u really miss home? How long was your tech school? What did you pick as your career? Any advice you could give me about tech school, and basic training would be very helpful!! thanks Best answer gets 10 points!!!

I went thro Lackland just about 3 years ago. I wasn’t out of shape, but I wasn’t in top shape. I didn’t really do much of anything before I went. I attempted to work on pushups-same case as you-pretty much couldn’t even do one! Didn’t really do too much of that either tho! When you first get there it’s a little overwelming. I was just barely 18, around a bunch of strangers, and then getting yelled at. Just dont let it get to you. The first week was the worst for me, after that you just start getting use to it and it’s not really a big deal. The pt is hard at first, but like everything else, you just get use to it. You’ll be running 30 minutes every morning(or afternoon if it’s cold) and then doing various exercises, push ups, sit ups, leg lifts, etc. They have to try to get in your head, so it’s not really being mean, just trying to break you down. We had a few girls in my flight that realized real quick it wasn’t for them, from girls taking back to the TI to a girl claiming she saw dead people. You’ll hear some funny things! You’ll make some really good friendships. You can all relate-your on your own in a new place and no one has friends so you bond quick. The girl that slept next to me in basic I still talk to all the time! You’ll miss home, but it’s not that long. I cried the first time I talked to my mom but after that your fine. My tech school was only 6 weeks long because my career field is so diverse. After I got to my first base I went back to another tech school for 3 months. My job is aerospace control and warning systems. I watch a scope(computer screen) and watch aircraft. I make sure there not at the same altitudes and when deployed(currently in iraq) I make sure there’s no bad guys where there not supposed to be! It’s a good job, and you can easily get a job on the outside as an air traffic controller.

The best advice for basic is try not to take it too seriously. Remember it’s there job to make you upset and break you down-it’s all a head game. Don’t ever talk back to a TI, and if you can help it don’t ever talk to them period! I made it all the way til the week before graduation before my TI knew my name! lol. Don’t ever ask a question, someone else will ask it first, and if they don’t, a lot of people will mess up whatever it was and it wont be a big deal. Don’t try to sneak stuff, yes you can probably get away with it but if they do catch you with anything it’s big problem-like you will get ‘recycled’ or ‘washed back’ basically you’ll start over. Go to church, even if you aren’t religious, go to church. You can get away and there’s no TIs there. I recommend going to the little chapel and make sure you go to the bible study after-little secret-they have snacks there usually! By the time you get to the end of basic you’ll figure out how to do things and it’s a piece of cake! Wish I could go back now! If you have any questions feel free to email me! Good Luck!
